Camel Toe Race Team News 09/14/03

The first semi official meeting of the Camel Toe Race Team took place Sept. 14th 03 @ 0800 at the Donald café. In attendance, we had: Mike Binder, Glen Anthony, Chris Buell, Scott Liddle, Scott Leeper & myself Gary Bryant.

Guidelines were established, meaning, there are NO rules- ride safe- have fun and bring the bikes and the boys home in one piece.

I feel a explanation is in order as to the origin of the team-group-club, whatever you want to call it; my inspiration came from the author, Peter Egan, who himself gathers w/a group proclaiming to be the Slimey Crud M/C Gang. Its' loosely organized and meet whenever and wherever time and space allows.

Organized rides will be announced (weather permitting) only a few days in advance- Destinations and routes will probably be planned on the spot of our meeting place, (spontaneity is good). All ideas and input is welcome, of course, we can always show up at any organized ride that others put on.

Anyone wishing to apply the Camel Toe Race Team sticker to his or her M/C should submit, in writing, a request along with a short bio. To be used in future newsletters and for everyone to acquaint us w/one another.

Obviously we have no age limit- unless someone of the fairer sex wishes to join; then the minimum age will be lowered and maximum age discussed? Certain standards must be kept at a civilized level. Motorcycle requirements will be up to individuals that want to ride with our group; They dont have to be Sport Bikes, But we do tend to LEAN in that direction.

It would be interesting to know whom your past, present or future M/C race star is, or what influenced your choice of bike.

Personally, coming from the stone age of racing, Kenny Roberts will always be KING KENNY, as much as I hate to admit this, thru the influence of Binder, I find myself in awe of current riders competing in WSB and F-l, Colin Edwards ll and Aaron Yates come to mind.

Earlier in the year a few of us gathered for a ride to PIR for races and a Triumph gathering. Our resident Triumph rider (before young Scott) was having misgivings about doing the parade laps and at the last moment when all the others were lining up, Mike scurries around to take his place on the track; he missed the first lap in his efforts to make up tyme (English bikes make tyme) and show the troups what he could do- He overrevved his cassette player and each lap left a spectacular streamer of sparkling tape; He certainly established himself with all the other riders that had to follow his personal tickertape Parade; this should warrant the title , Camel Toe race legend #l

Now that I've got a Kawasaki in the barn, it s fair to say

11/14/2003 CamelToeRaceTeam News
As the cold days of winter rapidly approach we find our good riding weather limited, this didn't discourage three of us to venture out for a Sunday afternoon ride; we wouldve had more riders but Scotts wife (Heather) was in Phoenix w/her sick dad, Binder and family sick w/flu and (lil) Scott and his dad weren't home when I checked on them. So, that left Chris on his Beemer, Glen on his Busa, and myself on the Fireblade. We had only one destination in mind (to get started) which turned out to be Estacada, for no particular reason.
Chris and I met up w/Glen at the Carver store and rode out to Estacada where we filled up our tanks. The next stop would be Molala. This is where the day got real interesting. Between Estacada and Colton a few miles out we were rolling along at a brisk pace when all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I realized someone was passing me in a turn. At first I thought it was Glen on that big bad Busa, but realized it was much bigger and traveling at a high rate of speed. When I looked to my left, it turned out to be a fairly new Saleen Mustang.
I checked my mirror to make sure the other Camel Toe riders were OK and also noticed these pretty red & blue lights flashing behind us. You could safely say "the race was on", except for the fact that the Mustang held an unfair advantage and the driver had little or NO concern for anyone else on the road. I decided to tuck in and follow the county Mounty and see where this would take us, but it was no use because the perp was passing on blind curves and the cop wouldn't risk endangering anyone else. So we settled in to a sensible pace totally expecting to find a Mustang wrapped around a tree at any curve in the road.
This never happened, and we got down to the business of riding some back roads. We eventually found our way to Binders garage where the bench racing began. Not to mention giving Mike lessons in the fine art of starting a 500cc four stroke single. Id also like to mention the only injury to report was to "Superbike Mikes", right shin, as a result of overzealous kicking of the starter on his DR Suzuki. Once we (Glen & I) wore ourselves out trying to build a fire in the DR, I noticed the ignition switch was turned OFF, I really think Binder was trying to play a cruel joke on us.
(Lil) Scott's dad just bought a new Suzuki SV650; it's red and really cool. I hope to have the two of them out on our next outing.
I think the experience we had on this ride is a good lesson that we all can benefit from, even when we take occasional chances we need to always remember that around each corner something totally unexpected could be waiting for us.
On a lighter note, Im putting together a Super Bowl Party (Motorcycle Style), videos of races this season along w/beer and chili. (Time and place to be announced later.)
In the mean time," Keep the Shiny Side Up "
